It's a Swap! Part 2

Remember this gorgeous hank of yarn?  I received this one skein over the weekend as part of the yarn swap I'm doing and have been mulling over the various potential projects I can make with it.  Some of you suggested a hat or fingerless mitts or a small shawl (all, by the way, great ideas) but with its decent yardage and nice DK weight, I decided to try something a little more substantial.

I work at a college and one of my advisees is graduating.  She's a very special person and as I thought more about her moving on to the next phase of her life, I felt the strong urge to send her off with a hand-knit gift.  Somehow, the connection of Noreen sending me this yarn and my knitting something to then send off with Kim felt right.

I've decided to knit a lace capelet.  While I'm not using a fingering weight or anything as delicate as mohair, the feel of this yarn is working.  It's a simple pattern of knitting in the round with two rows of yos and ssks between several rows of stockinette.  The yos and ssks provide a delicate detail and opens up the capelet in a really nice way.

I don't expect my lace capelet to come out like the "original" since the yarn is so different but I think the shape will be just as pretty.

Here's the catch:  Graduation is this week so I guess I'll be knitting morning, noon, and night!
