Calling all Hipsters

Now that summer is turning into autumn, my mind is turning to accessories knitting (joy!) and when I came across this great little hat, I pulled out some yarn from my stash and cast on instantly.
Caron Simply Soft
This hat is a nice combination of a beanie and a slouchy and would be a great accessory for any wardrobe.  I can imagine it topping off a casual weekend ensemble of denim jeans, sweater, and down vest or enhancing a workday outfit of trousers, button-down shirt, and belted jacket.
I'll admit that I knitted this version in an acrylic which has hardly any give or stretch.  And I tend to avoid such yarns because personally I don't like the way they feel -- give me 100% wool or a wool blend anytime -- but since I was testing out this pattern, I just grabbed the least expensive skein in my stash.  One thing I won't complain about though is the color -- this ice blue is so pretty!
This wasn't on my original list of year-long projects but I've tacked it on ... and I will definitely knit it again, next time in a Malabrigo worsted or some Madelinetosh.  Oh yes!

  1. I like the color, too. And this hat is really nice - will match many outfits, I guess.

  2. I was lurking on the People tab on Ravelry for new things posted by friends and I did a bit of a squee and said "Hey!!! I know that face!" Love the pattern and hope to try if out soon. I got back to knitting about 4 years ago when I made a similar hat over and over and over again. (I had never done circular knitting before.) Hats can be hypnotizing!

  5. That's one of my all-time favourite hat patterns. You've done it so well too - with just the right amount of slouch at the top.
