WIP: Thorpe

I've been wanting to knit a hat with earflaps for quite some time mainly because they look so warm and cozy.  Personally, I could never get away with wearing one ... I don't have a hat face but for any of you who have been reading my blog lately knows that I've been on a bit of a hat craze.

Just before the ear flaps

This pattern is called Thorpe and I instantly knew that I wanted to knit it. I like that it's a top-down knit in bulky wool and knit in stockinette and garter stitches.  I guess you can tell that I'm not in the mood these days for anything too complicated.

I stopped by my LYS last weekend and picked up two skeins of Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky, one in cranberry swirl and another in sapphire.  Just their names alone made me want to buy them.

I can already tell that this is going to be a fast knit (yay!) and a pattern that I will be knitting again and again.  I wish that I had the kind of face and head that all hats look good on but that's okay.... this Thorpe will be joining the collection of Christmas knitted gifts that I've been building all month long.  In fact, I know two very beautiful girls young women who will look fabulous in this type of hat.

  1. This is one of the hat patterns Hubby was interested in, and I still may make him (and me) one. I can't wait to see your finished hat!

  2. Moose and I each have one and I've been thinking about one for T too. She likes earflap hats.

  5. Nice! That will be popular.

There will be a hat out there for you. I find it difficult to wear hats too - they have to be the right kind of shape to suit.
