Maxima

Thanks for all the comments yesterday about my new WIP. I've knit Jane's patterns before and every time, I feel so satisfied with her instructions and general construction of the project. Now, these leg warmers are easy peasy -- if you can knit and purl, you can make these -- and that got me thinking.  When we design and/or knit truly simple patterns, the yarn is what makes the knitting fun and interesting.  Ultimately, the yarn is also what makes the FO pop!


One made, one to go

I posted about buying Manos de Uruguay's Maxima when I visited my LYS during its winter blahs sale and how I had some doubt about whether I would ever really knit with this color. Bridget knows my love of Malabrigo and steered me toward Maxima and it was truly hard to resist.
You wouldn't be able to resist either, could you?


For these leg warmers, I probably couldn't have picked a better yarn.  Its weight is perfect for the rib stitch, and it is incredible smooshy and soft like my beloved Malabrigo. One 16- inch leg warmer with a 48 stitch cast-on took just under 1 skein so I should be able to complete a set well under two cakes. As for the color, peach melba knits up in an evenly variegated pink and orange -- it's bright (but not neon) and perfect for spring.


While I'm not sure I'll add Maxima to my stash again because all the colors are variegated, for small accessories, it's pretty wonderful.

    Do you think the Maxima is as butter-soft as Malabrigo? I've only got the chance to play with Maxima once, but I remember thinking it didn't hold up to Malabrigo that well...

      If I were blind-folded, I would have a hard time telling the difference between Maxima and Malabrigo. Now, we'll have to see how well it wears but from a knitting point of view, they are really similar.

    Nothing is better for spring than knitting with pink and orange. Actually, it's possible it's even better knitting with those colors in winter, when everywhere is pretty drab except what's shaping up in your hands.

    I'm knitting with Manos Silk Blend and noticed the same thing with the varigations -- they aren't as pretty in big things as they are in small. But I still love the colors. I like your pink a lot, I think those leg warmers will be very fun to wear when they are done.
