Short or Long?
My cardigan is humming along, so much so that I'm knitting my first sleeve. I was able to finish the body, ribbed hem and all, over the weekend and in my final hour of knitting on Sunday, I joined my yarn on the left sleeve and managed a few rounds.
I haven't decided if I'm going to knit 3/4 quarter sleeves or full-length yet. Since I'm thinking of this cardigan as one I'll wear mostly in the spring, the 3/4 quarter length is speaking to me. It's a very loose and drapey cardigan so I don't want to feel overwhelmed in it but then again, will a shorter sleeve look odd? That's my question of the day: what do you think?
I'd go 3/4! I think it has more style!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should flip through the project pages on Ravelry to decide - there are examples each way. After looking at everyone else's I think I prefer the long sleeves. It's quite a flowing cardi with lots of fabric and the shortened sleeves looked a bit out of place to me.
ReplyDeleteLovely blue!
I also think 3/4 sleeves would be more stylish with this design, especially if it's meant to be a spring sweater.
ReplyDeleteThe one I did I chose full length sleeves and I know someone who did the same project as me with 3/4. I actually liked her 3/4 better. I know that yours is a different pattern, but if it's for spring I bet 3/4 would be nice :)
ReplyDeleteMy vote's for 3/4 length sleeves. I think it would make it look more modern and stylish.
ReplyDeleteI think 3/4 would look fine, even though it is a drapey knit. Maybe knit enough to right before the ribbing on both sleeves and then try it on and picture the ribbing and decide then if you should continue knitting or just end them. Actually it looks like the ribbing starts at abut the same point whether you want long OR 3/4 length. So maybe instead of binding off just put them on waste yarn and see if you like the look.
ReplyDeleteIt is looking great, btw! you're just speeding along!
I'll go with the flow and in addition to grandmastatus' suggestion - it won't take much to add a small ribbed cuff and give it a try - If it doesn't suit you make your mods from there
ReplyDeleteOh, don't listen to me - I'm only half-way through my first cup of coffee of the day.

I'm a fan of 3/4 length b/c I'm always rollin' up my sleeves and worrying about them dragging through something if I'm cooking or whatever.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I just love that blue!
3/4 definitely! All the fun of long sleeves without having to push them out of the way all the time.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, you are really getting that sweater done! It is going to look wonderful. I also totally agree with 3/4 length sleeves. I find myself wearing those sweaters more than those with longer or shorter sleeves.
ReplyDeleteI like 3/4 sleeves, too, but I agree with grandmastatus - just try it on as you get close to the end and see what you think. It looks great so far - I love the color!
ReplyDeleteI be the lone commenter and suggest a full length sleeve, but that's just because they're my favorite. Try it a 3/4 and see if you like it, that's easy enough since it's knit down to the cuff instead of cuff up!
ReplyDeleteLooks great. I love 3/4 sleeves. When I'm wearing a full sleeve, I end up pushing it up a good part of the time anyway.
ReplyDeleteI love the colour of your cardi! I would try it on and see how you feel when you get to that point :)
