I'm joining in Ginny's Yarn Along this week.
It's hard to believe but the end of August is near which is both incredibly exciting (I'm all ready for fall knitting) and a bit daunting as I was hoping to cast on more Miranda Hats this month. I have a bright, lemony yellow yarn that has been patiently waiting to be knit into a Miranda Hat so I just have to do it tonight!
It's been a little quiet over on the Miranda Hat August FOs thread in the Project: Stash Ravely Group so I thought I should remind everyone of the gorgeous prize this month as a little nudge incentive to cast on and finish at least one more Miranda Hat. Remember, all you have to do to win this prize is post your FO on the thread and a random knitter will be chosen. Our very own Ivy has offered a stunning skein of 100% merino hand-spun as the August prize and if I were you, I'd want to try my hand at winning this beauty.
At 300 yards, this beautiful variegated skein of fingering weight is perfect for a small cowl, a pair of mitts, or a couple of beanies. So, c'mon and post those FOs by August 31!!
Now to my reading: While at the beach two weeks ago, Miranda inspired me to starting running again. I've been a runner for the past six years but stopped about a year ago and haven't had the mojo to pick it up again ... until now. Since my first run, I've managed to maintain a 10 mile per week schedule and I'm so happy to be back to my regime. Funnily enough, I read a fascinating article in The New Yorker about a man who claims to be an elite marathon runner but who may actually be cheating in his races. I love reading about marathons (I know, what a geek) and this article was a great combination of running, psychology, and sleuthing!
Wow that really is pretty! I may cast on another hat this weekend if I can find some yarn in my stash. It will all depend on my time frame.
ReplyDeleteI am a runner as well. Although I haven't run with any regularity since I was pregnant two summers ago. Right now I'm in a blah moment about running as it just doesn't appeal to me. I'll get back to it soon I think.
ReplyDeleteI've been so lazy of late to CO another Miranda hat. I need to get up on that. The homespun is so lovely; I love how it looks so organic.
ReplyDeleteHa, I just picked up some lovely bamboo/silk yarn while I was in the 'big city' today for my next Miranda hat and promise to cast on tonight.
ReplyDeleteI have been training for a 5 mile run and swamp romp this fall, it does feel great to lace up my shoes each morning.
Nice work on the running. sadly (ha!) i can;t run due to knee issues, but I loved watching the Olympic marathons, never thought I would!
ReplyDeleteOh my..I'm gonna have to figure out a way to get the needles.. (I'm only supposed to use what and not buy anything new for my YOP2013..)hmm I do have size 8...I must just give it a try..
ReplyDeleteEvelyn, you're such a motivator. I casted on my August Miranda hat, but with so much going on for me right now, I'm not sure I'll finish. But I do love handspun, so...
ReplyDeleteI was really hoping to make a couple Miranda hats this month, but haven't even had the time to cast on one! Thanks for the nudge!
ReplyDeleteI need to knit one more to make my goal, I need to cast on soon! Thanks for the mention!
ReplyDeleteYou do know how to motivate people. I printed a copy of the pattern again, (somehow lost the first one) so I am ready to start.
ReplyDeleteI did co my first Miranda.
ReplyDeleteand, would you believe it ! ! ! I did not follow my own advice.
I picked up a lovely, squishy skein and promptly co, after four rows of the wonderful pattern - - - ugh, I did not even consider the color changes throughout this skein. Could not distinguish a pattern, no way, no how.
Finished the hat with ribbing.
Now, I get to pick a pattern appropriate solid color skein this time.
