Yarn Along 28

I'm joining in Ginny's Yarn Along this week.

You would think that I would be avoiding knitting sweaters right now after having frogged the same pullover twice but that experience has only made me dig in my heels more and commit to becoming a better garment knitter. I'm giving the Rowan Calmer a rest (for now) but this by no means suggest that my needles are idle.

My dear friend Wei Siew and I have been wanting to cast on Michele Wang's Bedford for a few weeks, and we decided that now was the time!  This cozy, slouchy pullover is a part of the BT Fall 2011 collection and the silhouette is exactly what I want in my fall/winter wardrobe.

Madelinetosh DK in Duchess

In trying to knit from my stash, I settled on some Madelinetosh DK I bought last year but the three skeins I had was not enough to knit the size 34.  I searched on Ravelry and found someone who was selling her two skeins in the same exact colorway -- how great was that?! Duchess is a gorgeous deep plum with flecks of lighter plum shades but I found it almost impossible to photograph well.  Still, here's a sampling of both the color and the twist stitch that will be the main portion of the sweater's body.

My Bedford is knitting up nicely, and, for now, I'm following the pattern faithfully.  From what I've read on the projects page, I'll likely have to do some math once I get to the raglan sleeves and neck opening but I'll worry about that later.

I'm currently reading two books at the same time, something I never do, but I recently watched the film Capote and was so taken by the story of how Truman Capote wrote In Cold Blood that I just had to read it.  I'm hooked!

  3. I have never knit anything with Madelinetosh, but I keep reading about it. I may have to find a project just to knit with some. It's a great color you've chosen.
