S(low) Burn

I'm not quite sure where the week went but before another one passes, I wanted to announce the winner of my yarn prize for the Show of Hands KAL.  Using the random number generator, I'm thrilled to say that the very talented Barbara has won!  If you haven't had a chance to see her beautiful work, head on over the forum thread on Ravelry and be inspired.

My knitting has been on a very (s)low burn. Perhaps it's because I've fallen a little out of love with my stash but am trying not to buy any new yarn.  Perhaps it's because I want to knit something really big but know that I have some holiday gift knitting to start.  Perhaps it's because I need some new needles.

Over the last few days, I've been pouring over Ravelry and Pinterest and blogs just hoping to get inspired.  Last night, I felt the inner stirrings starting again, and I can attribute that to downloading the digital edition of Knit.Wear spring 2012.  We'll see where this leads.

  1. What a wonderful surprise! I enjoyed every minute of Show of Hands, my very first KAL.

Evelyn, you are too kind. While my simple mitts serve my purposes, they pale in comparison to the lovely ones produced by the talented KAL participants, who are truly inspired and inspiring.

Kudos to you and Kepanie for leading this enjoyable KAL. And thanks again for the lovely yarn and pattern. Can't wait!

  2. It always helps to look and dream a little. I'm planning on having a complete revamp of my stash storage this weekend. I find I put things away and forget they are there - reorganising the lot will help me identify the ones that are screaming to be knit and find projects for yarn whose time it is to move on.

  3. I want to cast on a cable sweater [the one on the cover of of Interweave Knits] so bad, but I must finish all of my holiday knitting first. Once the last item is cast off I am on the lookout
    for yarn!
I did get the yarn to start my Christmas deer ornaments now just to find the time to cast on!

  4. About two months ago I was feeling like this - very out of love with my stash. So, I gathered piles of yarn and patterns and got stuck in. Now, about five? kids cardigan's later I am feeling VERY inspired. Plus - after using all that old yarn, I felt very justified indulging in more yarn at my LYS....

  5. I need to do my prize thing today too. I'll get to it later w/help from my princesses.
I was kind of eyeing that e-book too but am trying to refrain and be a good wife and not cause my CFO to send me another howler, LOL.

  6. I went through a phase like that recently too, where I didn't want to knit with any of my stash. What I decided to do to keep myself from buying new yarn was to pick a skein randomly and then challenge myself to make something amazing with it (including identical skeins too). It was a lot of fun! Whatever you decide to make, it will be super pretty I know!

  7. I think we all struggle from stash ennui from time to time. I think you're on the right track with looking around for inspiration. One thing I like to do is the visit the Ravelry pattern page and look at What's Hot Right Now http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/search#craft=&sort=recently-popular. I always find something new and inspiring - a pattern, a designer, an FO.

  8. Sometimes I don't think it's our stash, but rather our state of mind. I know personally there are tons of things I can knit from my stash, but somehow I am just not feeling it. :)
    Hope you find some inspiration!

  9. I get the same feeling when there's a lot of gift knitting to do, I feel very 'meh' about it... so then I cast on something for myself anyway. Even if I only work on it a little bit, it takes the edge off and I get excited about other things again.

  10. I have felt the same way...lately I've been looking through my queue and my stash (which I add to all the time)..and I've been revigorated to crochet instead of knit...

  11. Isn't Knit Wear wonderful :)

I've knitted so many pairs of mitts as Christmas presents I think I'll need a loooong break from the needles come the New Year ... I've given the poor old knitting mojo a good kicking these past weeks!
