It's a Swap!

One of the things I love about Ravelry is the huge community I've become a part of.  I'm finding myself "chatting" with folks as far away as New Zealand and as close as five miles down the road.  Being a new blogger, the site has also brought readers to project: stash and has introduced me to a whole new slew of favorite blogs.  I guess you can tell that I'm a big fan and follower.

Through a terrific group on Ravelry, I'm participating in a yarn swap, one where we had to choose a skein from our stash and send it off to a fellow swapper.  I just received my one skein of Mountain Colors hand-painted yarn and my mind is sparking like crazy.  Don't you just love the colors?

Okay, I was probably a little over-excited when the box arrived, but I couldn't help myself. This is my first yarn swap and when Mark brought the package in from the mailbox, I felt like I was getting the best present ever.  Someone "out there" picked this yarn for me to try and I couldn't wait to open the box.

So, thank you Noreen for being my swap buddy and sending me something I've never worked with before -- I'm really excited.   And I hope Erin is happy with what I sent to her -- she'll be posting about it on her blog soon.

Now I'm off to scour Ravelry and find a one-skein project to knit up.  If you have a suggestion for this one hank, please comment here.  I'm ready and waiting....

  1. I'm not certain of the yardage or weight of your particular skein of Mountain Colors handpainted, but maybe a Hitchhiker or some other shawlette/scarf pattern that takes well to color changes?

    Those colors are lovely, btw.

  2. OOOOOH! That packaging is sooo exciting! No wonder you felt like you got the best present yet!
I wonder what you will make? And how the colors will present themselves as you knit?
Thanks again for participating in this swap. I want to do it again already!

  4. I am so pleased you like it, Evelyn. Color changes can be challenging. This is a worsted weight. Maybe...fingerless mitts? A hat...myabe the Amanda Hat on Rav to tame the variegated beast? Oh, geez....I shouldn't get to vote!

  5. Hmm. I stand corrected. It comes up on Rav as an 8 ply DK weight. So I amend my prior comment. Oops.

  6. Hats are my favorite one skein projects. After looking at Noreen's packaging, I'm feeling slightly inadequate!

  7. Thanks everyone for great ideas... I think I've settled on a project and will be posting about that soon. To Underground Crafter: believe me, when I got my swap package from Noreen, I instantly thought about my lack of fanfare in sending my swap to Erin! ; )

  8. I did go with the Nigh Duck bag , though the dimensions will be smaller than the pattern because the yarn is a lighter weight. I love how it looks so far and will try to upload a picture tomorrow, it's supposed to be sunny, I hope I hope I hope.

  9. It is soooo great that yarn is the "best present ever' because our anniversary is coming up and yarn is so much less expensive than the diamonds I was planning. LOL!! xx
