Color Me Happy!

Knitters love to muse over yarn.  We like to compare and contrast lace versus bulky and everything in-between.  We like to advocate for our favorite yarn dyers and spinners and when we knit with a new yarn, we like to share that with our knitterly friends.

Macaroon

On Sunday, I posted about how knitters also seem to love cooking (or at least food!) and when I came across this image, I thought "how perfect." After thinking about how much we contemplate yarn choice, I also noticed that we love to muse over colorways.  I have read about how you are partial to blues, how you never go near yellow, and how grey has become the new black.  I'm a very visual person and color (and light) is a huge influence on me.  Color can make me happy or melancholy, excited or calm.

Lumbered Tones

I recently discovered this amazing blog which exists mainly to inspire its readers with swatches of color combinations.  I love stopping over at Design Seeds every now and then to spark ideas about how to combine tones and hues for my knitting projects.

  1. I've actually been looking for a website like this! It reminds me of a better curated version of Kuler. What a great find, thank you!

  3. Stimulating reading, as always. Thank you.

I have to shamefully say that I don't love any of the palettes, though I can see the elegance of them all. Give me a seaside palette, or a riot of pinks and oranges and I'll be happy all day long.

  5. I am most definitely a foody, I'm afraid I think about it a lot and I can't understand people who say they don't mind what they eat or they have the same thing everyday.......I have a ridiculously poor memory, but if someone refers to the food I ate at a certain place I will remember it. I was instantly drawn to the macaroons (my attempt tasted good looked poor!)

When I paint, I work with acrylics and I ca mix colours easily, I can tell how a colour is made.....but put things together and I find it so hard.......I often take a painting to the framers and let them get on with it, as it is definitely not my strong point.

  8. Surprisingly, of the three color palettes to chose from, I like the Lumbered Tones best. There is a blog I found on Bloglovin called Lovely Clusters at http://lovelyclusters.blogspot.com/ She does a similar layout of fashion or nature shots with the four unifying colors swatched below.

  9. It may be because I haven't eaten dinner yet that I pick the macaroons :).

  10. Great post as usual! You have great taste in reading. Thanks for pointing out Design Seeds. My daughter will love this.

I get my inspiration from nature. From examining the beautiful palates present in the bud of a flower, the graded tones in an autumn leaf, the greens of a forest, the granular roughness of bark. Very similar to Design Seeds I guess, except it goes on in my head!
