The Cardigan Chronicles: Day 2

Thanks everyone for your encouraging comments and cheerleading.  My 1x rib hummed along beautifully, and I had no problem following the instructions for my first decrease.  And then I hit a snag.

Berocco Ultra Alpaca Light

The numbers just weren't making sense, but I thought it was me so I kept knitting along, enjoying this beautiful alpaca/wool mix, and watching a really nice fabric develop.  But the math kept nagging at me so I turned to my KAL partner and asked her if I was doing something wrong.

Sure enough, there is an error in the pattern instructions (whew -- it wasn't me!) so I frogged back to the 1x rib and started the decrease again with our own correction. I fortunately had a couple of hours last night to knit so managed to knit past where I originally stopped to frog back and am now on my second decrease row.

A lesson learned without too many tears.  What was the lesson?  Always read the pattern a few times to see if there are any glitches in the math. Sometimes I find that I have to actually knit the pattern before I can find the mistake but when I can avoid it, I'll try.  In fact, Wei Siew didn't notice the mistake at first even though she read the pattern so thoroughly as to give me great notes even before casting on.  But being the expert knitter that she is, she compensated for the mistake and, in her head, added the stitches that were meant to be there.

Looking forward to another day of knitting this cardigan.  Onwards!

  1. so glad it could be fixed before too much had gotten done! It's looking lovely. Plus I'm in love with all Wine/Burgandy-ish colors.
