So I wanted to knit her something simple and warm which would remind her of our walks and how much I love spending that precious time with her. I bought one skein of Bernat Alpaca in plum and just started knitting.
Bernat Alpaca in Plum |
The hat has a nice thick two inch brim of 2x ribbing and the rest is stockinette. I stopped by her house this morning to give her a birthday hug and her birthday hat and she looked so pretty in her purply present.
If you have a special friend who would like a simple hat like this one, below are the (very) easy instructions. While I'm working on some original patterns I've yet to share, I guess I can call this my first published one! It's really almost too simple to claim as my own but since I knit it out of my head, I will! I'm naming this hat for my friend -- Happy Birthday, Beth!
Cast on 80 stitches on size US 9 circular needles and join (careful not to twist). Knit 2x ribbing for two inches. Begin stockinette stitch until hat measures 6 inches. Knit 10 stitches, *pm, knit 20 stiches, repeat from *, knit to the end. Next row: *knit to two stitches before marker, ssk, sm, k1, k2tog, repeat from *. Next row: knit. Repeat these two rows until only 8 stitches remain. You will need to change to DPNs when you decrease to 60 stitches. Cut 2 inches of yarn and thread through the remaining stitches with a tapestry needle. Pull tight and weave through.
It is beautiful in its simplicity. I love that plum color! I'm sure she will always think of you when she puts it on ♥
