Vanilla Knitting

Like most speciality groups, knitting has a vocabulary all its own and one of my favorites is the expression vanilla knitting.  While it generally connotes an easy, relaxing knitting project, I bet it holds different meanings for each of us.  I've got a teeny cold so vanilla knitting is exactly what I need.  A small WIP made with a easy-to-work-with yarn, a pattern that is quickly memorized, and a fast project that I can tell will go swiftly.

Espresso Bean

Alpaca Love is a blend of wool and alpaca and it feels nice and smooth between my fingers. I love the look of this hat design and picked it for the warm up winter KAL happening over at luvinthemummyhood blog.

Yes, my other, more demanding WIPs are languishing in my knitting basket at the moment, but  on doctor's orders, I'm allowed some vanilla knitting today.

*Looking at the color that I'm knitting with, I guess I should really call this chocolate knitting!

  1. There is nothing wrong with a little break from the more intense stuff! Your vanilla knitting looks beautiful. I'm wondering about that yarn, is it soft?

  2. Funny - I've never heard this term! I call it "idiot knitting" or "social knitting", depending on if I'm by myself or with other people!

  3. Thank you for the new term, I didn't know that's what it is called. I always keep vanilla knitting close by for those few minutes of spare time I need to fill.

  4. I love vanilla knitting. Today my vanilla knitting (i've got the same cold, no doubt) is a big pink baby blanket. So I guess it's strawberry knitting ♥

  11. I have some alpaca love that I'm hoarding... we had it here very briefly for a year (I believe, an indent order). It does feel lovely doesn't it! That beanie is the perfect vanilla knitting project. Get well soon! xx

  12. I dream of knitting with some Alpaca someday---and your pattern is going to look divine in that lovely chocolate brown. I had never heard the term "vanilla knitting" before now, but must admit it is a perfect term--and now I realized why I love my dishcloth challenge for the year, vanilla knits! Built in each month to my knitting!

  13. We all need some vanilla projects sitting around (especially during intense cabling projects).
How does this wool/alpaca blend compare to our favorite Ultra Alpaca?
