Palate Cleanser

While I've been working on my WIPs, now down to one, Miranda has gently but consistently been asking if I would knit her a pair of leg warmers.  As you can imagine, I've been unwilling hesitant to cast on anything new for fear of getting overwhelmed again but last night, her patience paid off.

A dedicated dance student since she was wee high, Miranda now takes five dance classes a week and has found a world that fits her like a glove (or should I say leg warmer?).  I found some Lion Brand in my stash from my very early days of knitting, I should add, and since she'll be pulling these on and off and stuffing them into her dance bag, I decided that a machine-washable acrylic would be perfect for her needs.

We both love stripes and so I'm knitting these with a dark purple and a lavender.  The pattern is purely from my head and hands, but if they turn out as I hope, I'll make sure to jot down the instructions. It actually feels really nice to cast on a new but small project.  It's like sorbet -- a palate cleanser -- as I move on from the last couple of weeks.

  1. Such pretty colors! I'm partial to purples like those too. I think that she will love them when they are done! I love how you are describing it, a palate cleanser.

  6. Palate cleanser is exactly the right term.
I'm working on one of those too, actually.
I love the legwarmers, and surely your dancer will too. I always wished I could dance- took ballet for a semester and that world did NOT fit me like anything. Maybe like a suit made of wasps. Seriously, I'm terrible. Still love legwarmers though ;)

  7. Love the purples in the leg warmers. My favorite color for sure. Good idea to tackle something that doesn't bite back right now.

  8. One of my favorite colors!
I love how she dances. My 7 year old is always prancing about. She's more into hip hop now and watches Shake It Up on Disney.
My little one loves ballet; we're going to look into classes for her during the summer when she's out of preschool.

    I love your colour choice!
