Sock It To Me

It's been a long, long while since I've knitted a pair of socks and with so many of you being incredible sock knitters, I'm inspired to cast on.  Late last year, Sara over at Wool Durham posted a giveaway -- it was during my very lucky stars phase and I won!

My prize was a $20 certificate to pick the yarn of my choice at the Spinspanspun shop on Etsy. Believe me when I say that it wasn't easy -- the colors are gorgeous and the textures are luscious.

But choose I did and settled on a sock yarn in a toffee color.  Hmmm, are you noticing a trend here with these golden hues?  Remember this other yarn that I won around that same time?

My new sock yarn is so pretty and while it feels a little rough to the touch, I've been assured that it will soften and bloom once knitted and washed. This came all the way from France and done up in such a pretty package.  So thanks again, Sara and Spinspanspun for this little beauty.  Now to look at sock patterns!  Any favorites?  I'm all ears....

  1. That yarn will make a very nice pair of socks. I cannot help you out much with patterns though, I tend to go a little crazy when it comes to sock patterns because there are so many wonderful ones!

  2. Oooh, it looks like it will make a lovely pair! (No suggestions here - I'm not much for making socks.)

  3. I, too, am not much of a sock knitter, but I wish I were. I have queued the Phloem socks on Knitty Spring/Summer. We should do a knit along....

  4. That it lovely yarn! I have to confess I'm having a bit of a mustard/golden yellow phase at the moment too! I am a happy plain-vanilla sock knitter - I ring the changes with the heels, and that seems to keep me happy for now! I guess it depends on how much of a challenge you want. Have fun choosing patterns!

  6. such a warm cozy color. I have no favorite sock patterns as I have been too chicken to knit socks. I will be watching to see what people recommend here.

  8. Love that color! Yeah to winning.
Now you know that I am absolutely giddy over the fact that you will be knitting socks. Hmm..favorite pattern, I do like Monkeys,Dragonfly, and Hermoine's everyday socks. With that lovely solid shade I would indeed venture into a more detailed patterns like Clover or Firestarter. :)

  9. Congrats on the win! I love yarn gifts!
I've been kicking to make some socks too. I don't have a pattern, probably something simple -everyday type - but I can't wait to hear what you do :)

  10. With a solid color like that, something with texture would look amazing. I always find something I love from the Interweave Favorite Socks book. It's my go-to for sock knitting!
