FO: My Citron

I mentioned the other day that I had a steady stream of knitting time over the weekend which allowed me to take projects off my needles (can you see the big smile on my face?). It was so nice to enjoy the process of finishing my two shawls and to see the final result.

Malabrigo Lace in Brillante

I have had my one skein of Malabrigo Lace in my stash for almost a year waiting to be knit up into a Citron Shawl. I saw this sample in a visit to WEBS and without any hesitation, grabbed a skein of Brillante, and then quickly let it languish in my yarn drawer. Does that ever happen to you?  You are so excited to buy the yarn and pattern for a project, get everything together, and then not cast on immediately?

I can't explain why I do that but last month when I decided to start knitting down my stash, I found this beauty again. I'll admit that I almost went in search for a different pattern to knit with it, but then remembered how much I loved the Citron sample in the store so stuck to my original plan. I'm glad I did.

The pattern is clear and simple and, when knit in a variegated yarn, produces a stunning result.  I haven't knit with Malabrigo Lace before (it's lovely), but my fingers ached a bit as I'm really not used to working with such a fine weight and small needles.

This is definitely on the shawlette side, but what I love about shawl designs is that they're completely malleable. I stayed faithful to the pattern instructions and used up my one skein but I can see how, when modified, this design can be something a bit more substantial. Okay, maybe not knit in a bulky yarn but worsted? On US8? Hmmm.....

  2. Oh wow, that is just gorgeous! The colors especially, wow! I love the feel of Malabrigo, I'll bet it was nice to knit with even though it was so thin and tiny. Also, you have been knitting like crazy lately Evelyn! I'm impressed!

  3. I hear yah sistah, in regard to worsted and size 8s. That's my comfort level too! I am enjoying the sock weight and size 6s for the Whole Hearted Shawl, just need to carve out some uninterrupted knitting time to get it to finished state, almost there.
I saw a friend's stash housed in a glass front cabinet last night and am green with envy. I think if I could sit nearby such a display as I knit of read, I would dream up more stash busting projects. Everything is pretty much in bins stacked in my closet, so it is harder to get inspired to knit things down. Must remedy this!
I did join the Blog Hub Holiday Stash Knitdown. Check it out!

  9. That is very pretty. Doesn't it feel great to stick to a project to the finish, even if it does cause a tiny bit of discomfort along the way?

  15. I love your Citron knitted up in the Brillante colourway. Beautiful! I have 2 skeins of Malabrigo Lace that were frogged from my sad attempt at the Whisper Cardigan that are waiting for a project. Now I know what to do with them. Thanks for the inspiration!
