FO: My Wholehearted Shawl

I did a lot of knitting this weekend, so much so that I got all my WIPs off the needles, soaked, and blocked! That isn't to say that I don't have new projects on my needles, but I'll save those for another post. I spent Friday night binding off my Wholehearted Shawl and the rest of the weekend working on my new baby cardigan design which I'll confess that I had to frog not once, but twice. I'm completely fine about that ... it's all part of the process, right?

But let's return to the Wholehearted Shawl. In case you forgot, I knit this in Madelinetosh Merino Light (also known in my stash as Heaven). The color is glazed pecan and it could not be more perfectly named. I think Madelinetosh has got to be one of my favorite yarns -- it is so smooth and knits up into a soft squishy fabric. Yup, I think this was the perfect yarn for this beautiful shawl. Oh, and mine was knit with one skein!

I got to use my new Red Lace US5 circular needles which are a joy to knit with. I won't lie -- my hands got a bit tired on occasion, but I know that the tiredness had more to do with the fingering weight of the yarn. I'm a worsted weight knitter so I keep my US7 needles and larger a lot busier than the smaller ones in my needle stash. Now that I've knit this shawl, I think I can get used to knitting finer projects.

This has been such a fun knit-along so thanks to everyone who joined in. Hmmm, I think I may just have to find another pattern and start another KAL!

  1. The shawl turned out just beautiful (but then again I've never seen a bad FO made from Madtosh yarn). I love the golden color so much. Wasn't the binding off fun? I sure enjoyed it.

  2. Gosh that's pretty!

Hmmm . . . I notice you didn't use the picot bind off. I used up my whole skein of handspun but didn't have enough left for the bind off. I was going to spin more, but now that I've seen how it looks without the picot, I might just go ahead and bind it off!

    1. Oh my gosh, you're right! I completely forgot to mention that I decided not to do the picot bind off as much as I like how that looks. I think the shawl looks lovely both ways. I'd say skip the picot on your new one.

  6. That shawl turned out beautiful! I love love love that color. Mine is at the high 200 stitches mark so i will be casting off by the end of the week I hope.

As for a suggestion for your next KAL, I suggest you check out Stephen West's Sun Satchell felted bag (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sun-satchel). I listened to the interview with him on the podcast Stash and Burn, and now I want to make one! Or maybe chose a tee shirt kind of top to knit for spring summer?

  7. That is beautiful! How many yarns was there on the skein? I have a skein of lace-weight yarn that I might give a go at for a shawl!

  13. I can see why that colorway was named Heaven. Your shawl looks so rich, soft, and warm - heaven upon one's shoulders and neck besides having a beauty model it.

  20. That's so beautiful! I must admit to being more than a little Tosh-curious, if the textures are as beautiful as the colours then I am doomed.

So sorry about the double-frogging though :( Hope it goes better for you now!
