I'm joining Ginny's Yarn Along this week.
Remember the other day when I added "knit along" to my middle name? I mentioned that the only solo project I was working on was my Oaklet Shawl. Well, thanks to the lovely Truly Myrtle, all my knitting is now being done in the company of friends.

I'm embarrassed to show my Oaklet in progress as it's clear that I've been neglecting this lovely project in the bottom of my knitting bag. When I took it out this morning to photograph, I realized how wrinkled the poor thing has become.
Now thanks to dear Truly Myrtle, I'm going to spend some time with my Oaklet today and get a few more inches knit up. I believe Sarah of Sezza Knits is joining us, too, which will make our KAL even more lively. We don't have a forum group to chat on but perhaps our blogs will serve that purpose as we update our progress. If you've been wanting to knit an Oaklet Shawl, join along. It's a great (free) pattern, and I love the community that is built around KALs.
So, what am I reading? I've found it hard over the last week to settle on anything. I think it's because I'm a bit fatigued ... I work at a college and the end of the year is always exciting but also very draining. I tried picking up a few non-fiction books, but I just couldn't get absorbed enough to stick with them. I browsed through my campus library yesterday and came upon Commencement by J. Courtney Sullivan, a novel about four Smith College friends whose lives take them on twists and turns. Yes, my reading this week is a like a busman's holiday, but the writing is funny and swift -- exactly what I'm in the mood for.
Very lovely, I really like that shawl and it's color. I still am wondering if I picked the right yarn for mine, but there's no turning back now! Sounds like a lot of people like your KALs.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very pretty shawl!
ReplyDeleteYou dear Evelyn have nothing to be embarrassed about, your knitting looks amazing and you should be smiling! :)
ReplyDeleteYour shawl is lovely--a KAL sounds nice. I am going to start a shawl soon--I just can't decide the pattern.Your book sounds delightful--I will have to check for it at my library. Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteThat's great that you do Knit A Longs. I don't often join due to the fact that I hate the pressure. I probably could use it though to get me going a bit faster!
ReplyDeleteI was actually at Smith when Commencement came out, some people were a little offended about some of the things she wrote, but I haven't read it yet so I can't really comment. She actually lived in the house (dorm) adjoining mine! I love how the shawl is turning out, once you block it the wrinkling should go away.
ReplyDeleteThe shawl looks great, and I also get sad when I pull wrinkled projects from my bag. I'm also between books. And I also work at a college. (Ok, enough coincidences/similarities for one day!)
ReplyDeleteI get bothered too when my knitting is all crumpled. I admit that's a big part of the reason I steam block my work as I go along!
ReplyDeleteThe truffle truly is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIt's okay that it's a bit wrinkled. You'll have to block it anyways in the end.
ReplyDeleteI marked Commencement to-read on Goodreads; mahalo for the rec!
Yay for kal's! I think we might have another taker or two too - we'll see...
ReplyDeleteLoving the colour of your Oaklet - wrinkles and all ;) you're a bit further on than me - I'll have to get clickity clicking!
The thing we love about hand knits is they always bounce back!
ReplyDeletehugs
that's a gorgeous coloured shawl. i wish i could join your KAL. too many commitments at the moment, but next one, hopefully! looking forward to seeing your progress, though!
ReplyDeleteYou Oaklet is looking beautiful. Bah-what is a wrinkle here and there. After a good blocking you won't even notice it.
ReplyDeleteohh now I will have to get on with it!!! I love the colour of yours, I probably should dig my intended yarn from the stash...
ReplyDeleteYou are making more progress than me but I am sure I know where the yarn is, just have to move stuff on top of the blanket box to get to it. I have also decided to do the Cladonia, I have had it as a favourite for ages and it seems to be just the right amount of lace for a beginner. This year seems to be taken up by a fair amount of gift knitting so it will be a while before I can cast on for myself....hopefully before our winter ends! Your Oaklet is a lovely colour :-)
