Another Year, Another Challenge

Last summer, I joined up with a wonderful group of knitters and participated in a Year of Projects over on Ravelry.  It was just the type of challenge I wanted:  to create a list of projects to knit over the course of one year and ... well, knit them. The first Year of Projects recently ended (June 30) but in looking back, I see that my ambitions outweighed my needles.  I'm not terribly disappointed.  After all, I finished a lot of other projects that were great challenges, including designing!

The Miranda Hat

This year I've decided to jump in again, but rather than list specific patterns, I've decided to give myself a bit more freedom and list types of projects instead.  Like many of you, I noticed that my tastes changed over the course of the year.  I was so inspired by reading what you all were knitting that it was hard to stay on track with my list.

So, what will I plan to knit this year?  I'm going to attempt 12 accessories:  3 shawls, 3 cowls, 4 hats, 1 pair of mitts, and 1 pair of socks.  Moving on to bigger items (and therefore, bigger challenges) will be two garments: one cardigan and one pullover.

I'm hoping that at least two of these projects will be original patterns that I design, and I'm really excited to take part in this challenge again. I only have two WIPs on my needles right now (the Oaklet Shawl and the Wonder Blanket) so I'll be casting on a new project today to get started on my new Year of Projects. If you're also participating, let me know -- I want to see your lists, too!

  3. That's a good list with lots of variety. I've thought about making a list for the next year, but I change my mind very often on what projects I want to make so I don't think it would do me any good.

  4. I really wanted to join this year of projects thing, but I don't think I can commit. Maybe I need to do a year of blogging. :)

  9. I'm sure you'll do fine with that list. I know what you mean about the need to simplify :)

  10. I like these lists that have a couple of these and a couple if that. Unfortunately I tend to go on runs of things instead. Love the idea of a wonder blanket!

  12. I like the idea of a year of projects, but fear I have so many WIPs that I should just focus on finishing those!

  15. You hit the nail on the head when you said that things change over the year. I gave up trying to say in advance what I want to knit - it always shifts! However, one thing is certain: my first steeked colourwork garment!

  19. Fun list! I'm glad you're not overly bothered by the fact that you didn't complete last year's list. You did accomplish a lot and enjoyed yourself. That's what a hobby should be!

This year's list feels a bit ambitious too, but either way I wish you a lot of fun for the next twelve months as well :)

  20. I like the way you have chosen to join in the challenge this year--many of us have done similar "planning"! Once again, looking forward to cheering you on throughout the year as you create.
