Now to the next important task: what to knit while in the car? After hearing Abby from Knit Knit Cafe talk about her love of the Wingspan shawl on a few recent podcast episodes, I couldn't resist and cast one on earlier this week. At first, I cast on with a skein of Lorna Laces in Stoplight Red but that was a huge mistake. The rayon content in the yarn gave the shawl too much drape and after completing two triangles (because I was stubborn and wouldn't admit failure), frogged the thing.
Being more mindful, I searched my stash again and found a more comparable yarn to what's called for in the pattern which is my Ball and Skein Sophia in the Gourd colorway.
I have a feeling that I'll easily finish this shawl before the road trip back home so I've got to come up with another project to take. Another pair of heroine socks? Another shawl? What's your favorite road trip knitting project?
I have a wingspan, it's a fun knit. I think another heroine socks is in order, it's such a fun idea and socks are always a good road trip knit.
ReplyDeleteomy! i love montreal! it's been forever and a day since i've been there though... cost of flying to europe is actually cheaper than flying across canada! so sad... i am super excited for you though! what a fun trip!! though i don't know of any lys' off hand in montreal, i'm eager to hear what you find out!! xox i too am trying to figure out what my next project will be (after the 2 already on the needles. lol) and it seems to be a toss up between a shawl and a lace weight pullover (yesser lace weight!) perfect for summer i think. no? have a fab trip! xo
ReplyDeleteLucky! I have never been to Montreal, only Vancouver and Victoria. I can't wait to see what you see, do, and buy! That red is extraordinary. I swear this color is kind of growing on me.
ReplyDeleteIf you have a chance to go on the south shore of Montreal you really should go to Biscotte & cie, local indie dyer who has a lovely shop. http://biscottecie.com/
ReplyDeleteI love socks for car knitting, they don't take up any room and they are light :) Enjoy your trip, I can't wait to read all about it.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! Knitting is one of the things I love about car travel. That and reading aloud together. I never seem to bring portable things. You are smart to take a shawl rather than a bulky knit cardigan. I hope you guys have great fun together. One of these days I'm going to see Canada!
ReplyDeleteLucky you!! I hope you have loads of fun. I'd probably take both a shawl and socks. That way you can alternate when you get tired of knitting one. How about a boneyard? It's a really easy pattern.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to be going on a road trip to Montreal! It is such a lovely city. Great food and wonderful history. Take lots of pictures for us :) Your Wingspan is a great project to bring along. My road trip project of choice would have to be hexipuffs. I have the pattern memorized by now and they are so portable.
ReplyDeleteHave fun! It will be a beautiful shawl!
ReplyDeleteI love what you've renamed the shawl, very clever. The shawl is beautiful, can't wait to see yours in this beautiful colour. I've started my first 'proper shawl' pattern, yesterday called Summer Flies, I'm really enjoying it, so will put the one your doing in my library. Have a great break. Deb x
ReplyDeleteOh, I can't wait to hear about your trip. Montreal is on my list of vacations.
