Yarn Along: Hermione

I'm joining in Ginny's Yarn Along this week.

Without knowing it, the Hermione Everyday Socks was the perfect pattern to begin my Heroine Chronicles. Since I've recently been only knitting toe-up socks, I wanted to refresh my cuff-down, heel flap, gusset, and kitchener toe skills.

The ribbed cuff and texture stitch leg went swiftly, and I braced myself for the heel flap.  I know it's not hard, but it's been a while. I also had to convert the pattern for DPNs as the instructions call for two circulars which I just didn't feel like using. So,  there I was, knitting the slip stitch heel, when after about 1.5 inches I realized that I was knitting the pattern inside out! Grrr.....

I ripped back, started again, and re-knit the heel flap (I guess I wasn't practicing my mindfulness) and am now past the gusset and onto the foot. I have to say that the anatomy of socks really fascinates me. Each section of the sock becomes another with just a few twists and turns.  I've started a new knitalong so please join in!

While I'm not reading Harry Potter in honor of my Hermione socks, I did spend some time in my local library the other day and came home with another armful of books. I'm reading In Between Days which is a family drama about recently divorced parents whose grown children are facing some difficult challenges, not the least is the daughter's expulsion from college.  The mystery of this expulsion unfolds slowly which is definitely keeping my attention.

  1. There is almost nothing better than coming home with a pile of library books! Sounds like you are never lacking good reads either. Too bad about the sock mishap, but we all make mistakes and you'll get to spend more time with the fun pattern! Also thank you for the heads up with Vintage, I'll be sure to keep the stretching in mind when I block the sweater.

  5. Was talking with Hubby during lunch ref: toe-up / cuff down

    I do prefer toe-up, two-at-a-time one circular

I'll check out Hermione - no doubt yet another for my Rav Queue

Thanks for the book recommend, Evelyn

  11. Top-down is so soothing to me. I'm itching to work on some socks as you've got me intrigued about different kind of heels, but I got no business starting a pair. I admire how you multi-task.
