Knitting Matters

It's been a tough week to blog ~ between so many personal events happening in my life and the recent events in Boston, my mind has been a bit scattered, and frankly, I have felt a little funny writing about knitting as much as I love it. But then, the other night, I realized that I hadn't picked up my knitting ... at all! I was busy at work and then busy at home and before I knew it, I was tucking myself into bed ready to go to sleep when it struck me that I hadn't knit one stitch, let alone one row.

So, yesterday, I picked up some new needles and a skein of self-striping yarn that that I got over the weekend and cast on for a pair of toe-up socks.  The yarn was gifted to me by my lovely sister Esther and it's basically the perfect sock yarn.  And the needles ... I'll be doing a little review on those soon. Seeing the cheerful colored stripes develop on this pair of baby socks made me smile and calmed my mind.

Yes, knitting matters and I really shouldn't go a day without some!

  1. We all find hope in different things. Rainbow striped sock yarn doesn't seem like a stretch to me :)

  3. I have also felt too overwhelmed with personal things- caring for my grandparents while one of them was in the hospital- to get any knitting done for a few days. But today she's home and I checked on her to see she's feeling great and I picked up my project with such relief. It really is a stress relief. I think that's why I've knit so much this year. I hope all is well with you and I'm glad you have the wisdom to nurture yourself with something you love.

  4. I understand. Knitting is like exercise for me now. It's part of the lifestyle, the decompression, the "creative" meditation. Like you said, sometimes you don't need much. A little goes a long way.

  9. The events in Boston affected me as well. It was a really shocking thing that happened and I hope that all those injured are healing. I like the beginning of your sock, so colorful!
