Blame It On the Heat

I didn't intend to have a two-week hiatus from my blog, but somehow the end of June rolled into the beginning of July and my knitting waned and I wilted.  Up until then I was regularly knitting on three projects.  A test knit cardigan which is still under wraps, a pair of stripey socks for the fun of it, and the Nachtfalter top as part of the Holla Knits KAL.

And then life got really full with graduations, birthdays, and beginning of summer shenanigans.  I can still remember when summers were synonymous with lazy days and long stretches of time to read and cook and indulge in passions that seemed to be neglected during the other seasons.  Nowadays, summers don't have that same relaxed feeling as it did in years past.  Sigh ...

Still, I have managed to keep up with at least one of my projects and I'm so happy with how it's turning out.  I was a little worried that I'd run out of my remaining ball of CotLin so when I picked up the stitches for the back panel of this top, I knit two lace motifs with Comfy Sport, and I don't think you can really tell the difference.  Yes, Comfy is much softer but since those two pattern repeats will be tucked under the blouson portion of the garment, it will hardly be noticeable (and the color matches perfectly, don't you think?).

So, now that we're well into July, I'm hoping my knitting mojo will steadily return.  I'm thinking of casting on a simple but elegant linen tank soon, but my Nachtfalter needs to be finished first.  Can I just blame my slow progress on the heat?

  5. I never would have known those repeats were comfy sport. I'm a little behind on mine too, but we have an extension so I'm sure you'll finish with the group. Have I mentioned how beautiful this is going to be? I love it in one solid color.

  6. If you hadn't mentioned there was a change I wouldn't have noticed, the color does blend nicely. You absolutely can blame the heat! It's draining!

  7. So glad you're back, and I couldn't agree more with the pace of summers. Sometimes I worry there is so much fun to cram in, how much fun will we be able to appreciate it -- but there are so many good things. I'm hoping to find a better balance in the coming weeks. Your knitting looks great, I agree with flyingjen and I wouldn't have noticed without you mentioning the color change. Pretty!

  9. So glad to see you back--our weather has been warmer than normal too, and I found myself slowing down on everything. Today we have our natural marine air, air conditioning blowing through the area so our temps have dropped which feels great! I lamented the missing dog days of summer on my blog last Sunday--I think it comes with having older children--their lives never seem to slow down. :) I sure love the color of that yarn you are using! My daughter used Cotlin on a couple of projects recently and she was really happy with how they turned out.

  11. I wouldn't have been able to tell if you didn't mention it. This will be such a pretty piece. Maroon is so in. I just shopped at the Nordie presale and there were lots of wine/maroon items.

  12. The sweater is looking wonderful! The two yarns match up so well. I hope that you can find the time to finish it soon. I usually enjoy knitting in the summer, but for some reason, my knitting mojo has dipped this summer, too.
