Knitters Make the Best Friends
I've decided that the world would surely be a better place if everyone was a knitter. It never ceases to amaze me how generous, kind, and down-right sweet my knitter friends are. Take Karen, for example. Around the time I posted my three goals for 2014, Karen blogged about her beautiful Motif Cowl, and I was, to put it simply, in awe. I read that she culled her patterns from The Mitten Book and then discovered that this little treasure is out of print. So, I asked her what she thought of the book and whether it would be worth my time to scour used book stores and buy myself a copy.
You know what Karen did? She offered to lend me her copy so that I could see for myself. I don't know about you, but that pretty much blew my mind. It's not that I can't be generous in that way (I'd really like to think I am), but we've never met in person (we don't live in the same city) and frankly, the New Yorker in me can be just a tad jaded guarded about sharing my stuff! I just loved that Karen had no problem entrusting me with her book, and I'm completely touched by her generosity.
The book arrived in my mailbox earlier this week along with a sweet note and a garland of sewn fabric circles which I've put over Miranda's bedroom door ~ it makes us smile whenever we see it. I'm going to enjoy taking my time to look through the patterns in this book. I'll let you know what I think soon. Thanks, again, Karen!
It's nice to be reminded that there are beautiful, giving souls in this world; I have found that the blog world is full of them. I will be curious as to what you think of the book, it looks fun.
ReplyDeleteWow. How sweet. The book looks great...do let us know if you like it!
ReplyDeleteThis book is available through Amazon. I just ordered a used copy of the one in your photo.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I've been thinking of colorful colorwork mittens myself, lately. Looks like a great book!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet to share a book. This reminds me I have had a fellow knitting group member's book for far too long.
ReplyDeleteOh that is so nice. I agree about knitters making the best friends. Even though she doesn't knit much anymore, one of my best (and long distance) friends I met through knitting, and have also bonded with so many other people through it.
ReplyDeleteI have that book! (Somewhere! Too. Many. Knitting. Books!) You are absolutely right: knitters (and sewers - OK Crafters!) are the very best people!
ReplyDeleteA kindness of knitters, that's what I learned while on a fall retreat in Maine, hosted by Paula of the Knitting Pipeline. I never knew that was the descriptor of a group of knitters and I too, experienced the generosity, encouragement and joy that you shared in your post. It is true that if everyone of us were knitters, the world would be a better place. Thanks for sharing this story!
ReplyDeleteThree cheers all around! Have so much fun...so happy to share. xoxo
