Square Needles?

I'm always open to new methods and tools for knitting and was intrigued when I saw these on WEBS' blog the other day.

I've knitted with circulars, DPNs, long and short straights, and detachable needles, but I've never had the chance to knit with square ones.

The other day, Miranda asked me about what's on my holiday wish list this year, and I drew a blank ... at first ... and then I remembered these needles.  Yes, I would love to try these out (hint, hint if Miranda is reading) and am so intrigued by how they will feel in my hands.  Oh, and did I also mention how much I love knitting with wood versus metal?

What do you think?  Worth a try or just a fad?

  1. I think it is worth a try. I have knitted with the Kollage square needles. I liked them except the metal scrapping sound.

  2. I like the sound of them too - perhaps square needles would not twist as much when knitting as round needles as you can get a better grip on them?

  3. I bought a pair of large 12mm square ones a few years ago for my daughter as I was told they were easier to use than round. For their size, they're much thinner (the square does the job of the round for width but with less bulk). I have knitted with them a couple of times myself. They're certainly nicer to use in a larger size than the cumbersome round ones. The next time I see some, I might have to try the thinner ones too!
