But rather than a dropped stitch, the Moguls Cowl has you pick up stitches from w-a-y below where you are currently knitting which allows the knitter to create this mogul-like affect.

Sure, you have to pay attention or else you'll pick up the wrong stitch or perhaps make a mogul where it doesn't belong (hint: no looking up at the movie you just rented when you get to this part of the pattern).
I really love the effect of this technique .... and did I mention how much I love working with Berocco Ultra Alpaca? Yeah, I think I've gushed about it before! But it really is such a nice yarn and it makes for a soft, squishy fabric. I won't be keeping this cowl (shhh ... it's a Christmas gift) but I'm already planning on making one for myself this winter.
I love that texture too :-) I made a Kim Hargreaves sweater years ago that used it on the collar, cuffs and along the bottom. So fun!

Hey, gal, have a great day.

There's a sweater in the latest IW Knits edition that has a similar stitch. Mysterious looking!
ReplyDeleteWow it is so beautiful! I love alpaca yarn too :).
ReplyDeletethat's such a great stitch/texture effect! and I love ultra alpaca, too- so soft!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! I love the color & the puckering effect.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really neat effect this technique creates. Great purple.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely pattern! I can see why you chose to do the KAL!
ReplyDeleteYou are a knitter who likes living on the edge! I like my stitches on the needles, but all credit to you for making it sound so easy!
ReplyDeletevery interesting pattern, and lovely colour!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. I've done a welt stitch, across an entire row, to draw the fabric into a nice fold...but never seen a a pattern use the technique to create "puffs" like this. Cool!
ReplyDeleteVery cool technique! I have never tried anything like it before. The effect is so pretty and textural.
