I'm taking part in Ginny's yarn along
I wrote about this book a couple of weeks ago and am one chapter away from finishing. It's been a fascinating read, one that has made me think a lot about my own approach to life and relationships.
Each chapter spoke about something I could relate to: how introverts are social beings but prefer small gatherings, what introverts can do to feel comfortable in demanding situations (like speaking in public), and what introverts contribute to a noisy world. I'm going to take away a lot from this book but perhaps one of my favorite concepts is what Cain calls the sweet spot.

We all look for our sweet spots, sometimes consciously and sometimes unconsciously. No matter, the point is that we have these moments in our lives (hopefully everyday), when we can recharge and enjoy something that makes us go "ahhhh." For me, it's in the evenings after work and dinner is done or on the weekends when I can carve out a little time to sit and do what I love. Mainly, it's knitting but sometimes it's purely reading or writing letters or reading your blogs.
So, my sweet spot is both figurative and physical -- I settle down with my favorite beverage (yes, it's strong coffee) on my couch with my laptop, book, and knitting. Of course, you all know that my recent weekend of knitting didn't exactly take me to my sweet spot but that's okay ... let's just say it was more bittersweet. As for knitting, I'm finishing up this WIP, there on the ottoman, so will have something successful to show soon (for a change).
Being an introvert myself, I must read that book too! Sweet spot is a wonderful way of putting it, all I know is that my sweet spot is somewhere quiet doing something that helps me relax. A cookie and a warm drink help too : )
ReplyDeleteIntrovert here as well! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting read.
I just noticed that book sitting by my dad's chair when I visited my parents yesterday. I'll have to borrow it when he's done - it sounds good!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good book! I think I'll have to put it on my reading list! (Which about as long as my Ravelry queue, and as disorganized, but at least it keeps me from forgetting things exist. :) )
ReplyDeletewhat a clever concept! I'll have to read this, I think a lot of bloggers are naturally introverts, which is funny- because it never comes across that way onscreen, because we can carefully curate our own content. I'll have to keep my eye out for that book!
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to read, then reflect.

ReplyDeleteOhhh I'm going to go see if our library has that book. I'm such an introvert and it sounds good! I'm loving your shawl! The color is gorgeous. (Both of them!) Sorry about your sweater too!
ReplyDeleteI must read this book--thanks for the suggestion! And I think we have the same sofa!!! I love cozy-ing up in it, too!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely cozy place you have for your sweet spot.

All so well said!
ReplyDeleteLovely post--but as a mom of 3 boys, I can't get over your white couch! :) Life is not worth living without a little time to spend in a special spot--relaxing with something enjoyable.

That 'sweet spot' is so important to our sanity in a busy world! I'm looking forward to seeing your new project!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to cuddle up to knit, read, and surf. Man, your place is neat!
ReplyDeleteI've put this list on my queue on your recommendation - looking forward to starting it!
