The Weekend Sweater

A few nights ago, as I was going through all the new sweater patterns being released (hourly it seems), I started to feel more overwhelmed than excited.  My mental queue was on overdrive, and I was adding pullovers, cardigans, vests, and even car coats (I know, car coats!) onto my list of sweaters to knit right now. As I was adding pattern upon pattern onto my list, I was also making another mental list of yarns that would be perfect for each project and before I knew it, I was exhausted!

I shut my laptop, pulled out a pair of needles, grabbed a skein of bulky yarn, and cast on a vanilla pullover.  What's a vanilla pullover for me?  Top-down, raglan sleeves, stockinette all the way. I'm calling this my weekend pullover ... it's knit in acrylic (and I never knit with acrylic) but what's more perfect than a soft, machine-washable acrylic that I can throw over a tee and jeans on the weekends when I want to sit by the fire with a cup of coffee and a good book?

  1. I think it will be a great sweater and I love the idea of simple washing, sometimes hand washing and blocking takes forever. Happy knitting.

  2. Yay! I love sweaters to layer with. I haven't worn one for she's as I used to get hot and now I want some to layer with my chambray.
I would love one knitted in Knit Picks Brava as it feels soft and good. One day.

  3. How great is that for a quick project!? I agree about acrylic being a good choice for carefree wear I'm a practical gal and so my acrylic Oatmeal gets tons of wear!

  4. I think there's a huge craving for a weekend sweater happening around the world at the moment. Yours looks lovely! I've been looking at sweater after sweater too, but nothing is quite cutting it. I'm going to have to knit one to my own specs too!

  5. Good on you! I told DH I was coming to bed about 10.30 last night. I ended up getting caught up in the same thing of queuing and planning sweater/cardigan projects and suddenly it was 12.30 am!!

  9. Bulky yarn is the best for quick and easy knits. Better yet is one that is easy to care for. Love the simple cozy look of your pullover. Great colors.
